Setting itself in a penal colony in 2320, The Callisto Protocol aims to be a horrifying and evil addition to the PUBG universe.
The game shares a universe with the smash-hit battle royale title, but the mechanics are very different.
The Callisto Protocol is being developed by Striking Distance, a division of PUBG’s parent company, Krafton.
The Callisto Protocol’s gameplay and the story will give players a fresh take on the science fiction/horror genre.
The Callisto Protocol has been the subject of much anticipation among followers of the horror video game subgenre ever since the trailer for it first appeared online.
So, the main question is, when is this game actually releasing?
The Callisto Protocol will finally be available to the public on December 2, 2022, so the long wait is almost over.
New speculations about a possible delay were spread after Glen Schofield stated that the team working on The Callisto Protocol put in as much as 15 hours a day, six days a week.
Given the tweet’s widespread backlash for encouraging a “crunch culture,” several have proposed postponing the deadline.
Nonetheless, despite Schofield’s regrettable comment, no postponement has been mentioned since.
The Callisto Protocol Story
Co-creator of the Dead Space series Glen Schofield returns to the survival horror genre with The Callisto Protocol.
His new studio, Striking Distance Studios, is releasing a sci-fi horror game with obvious inspiration from Dead Space. The intention is to increase the tension and terror.
The game’s action takes place on Jupiter’s moon Callisto, the second largest moon in the solar system.
More explicitly, this event occurs in the year 2320 on the planet Callisto, specifically in the Black Iron jail.
The protagonist, Jacob Lee, is locked up while mutant monsters start killing off the other inmates.
The Callisto Protocol fuses elements of survival horror and battle quite well.
Thanks to both melee and ranged combat, players can try out different strategies and pick the most effective weapon for the job.
Like most survival horror games, players won’t have an endless supply of ammunition at their disposal as they fight for their lives. As was predicted, powerful weapons can dismember limbs and slow advancing enemies.
Jacob will face various adversaries, from robotic jail guards to horribly mutated people.
Players may need to get inventive if they don’t want to get overpowered or trapped in a simple weapon battle.
The designers put a premium on creating an unsettling atmosphere full of challenging challenges for players at every juncture.
Even with shotguns, melee weapons, and the gravity-altering GRP device, it will be challenging to defeat the misshapen monsters featured in the trailers.
The Callisto Protocol Pre-orders and Release Editions
As is customary, those who pre-order the game will be eligible for special bonuses.
The Day One Edition comes with a special outfit for Jacob Lee, two different weapon designs, and a downloadable content pack called the Contraband Pack, which is only available on the PlayStation 4.
These bonuses, plus the Season Pass and early access to the DLC for PlayStation owners, are part of the game’s Digital Deluxe Edition.
A Jacob statue, steelbook case, comic book, and two pins are all part of the Collector’s Edition.
The game is being developed for PC and next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but it will be playable on the PS4 and Xbox One.
